Sounds like an easy concept, pouring a glass of water. It truly use to be, easy. But lately it has become a task. I am a proud mother of a three-year old boy. I am married to a very lucky man and we are expecting our second baby in March.
Three years ago, pouring a glass of water was no big deal, go to the kitchen, find a clean glass on the shelf and open the fridge. Ahhh, refreshing water. Easy, stress-free water. Even a refill minutes later to quench my thirst. I didn’t know how great life was.
Now the task has taken on an entirely new meaning. Sometimes it is hours before I realize that, I
have had ZERO water since I woke up. This is how it works out:
Step One: Realize I am parched. Hear son calling for Help! Attend to son. Notice that the dryer has stopped. Fold clothes and put them away.
Step Two: Decide that I am thirsty. Walk towards kitchen and notice that my son is standing on the book shelf. Help him get down with three books. Read three books to dear boy, twice.
Step Three: Mouth is dry. Reach for clean glass and realize that there are NO clean glasses. Empty dishwasher. Reload dishwasher and wipe off counter tops. Hear the buzz from the washing machine, walk towards laundry room.
Step Four: Need water. Standing in kitchen and hear, “Mom, I’m ready!” Walk to bathroom to wipe a booty. Wash hands and realize the soap is empty. Refill soap. Get clean hand towel. Tidy up bathroom.
Step Five: Phone rings. Walk around the house trying to talk to my mother in law while shhhing and making mean, serious faces at boy who just doesn’t get it.
Step Six: Walk towards kitchen because I am SO thirsty. Hear, “Honey do you know how this works?” Of course I do, I am the Mom. Help husband use the printer. Notice dryer is done. Fold clothes and put them away.
Step Seven: Small head ache. Decide water will help. Walk to kitchen. Get clean glass and pour water. Shut the refrigerator door and see boy with open arms, “Can I have a sip?” Hear, “Honey, what’s for lunch?”…
Motherhood is the greatest gift. Investing in bottled water and a private fridge, also a GREAT gift.
